This is About Home is a very special project in collaboration with the Ukrainian Association led by our community producers, Nataliia Fedchenko, Nadiia Smoliar, and Ananieva Oksana.
This story is about young people who were separated from their families and taken to work in Nazi Germany – and their subsequent difficult journey to Great Britain.
The premier of this moving film will show how, despite being separated from their families for over 50 years, they did not lose their identity, and were able to build their lives whilst staying connected to who they are and where they came from.
In these short stories we’ll meet people who built a community – the Ukrainian diaspora in Gloucester, from the period after the Second World War to the present day – people who sought refuge and peace in a foreign country, which would become their home. Many of them are no longer with us, and so their voices are spoken by their children.
The event will feature the film and an accompanying photographic exhibition, a short talk and an opportunity to engage with the film makers.
Places are free but space is limited so please do book here.
